All of the positions listed below are provided with the training that is necessary to be successful in the position. These positions also require a longer commitment from the volunteer, which is specific to each position.

Advisory Committees (Ages 16+)
THPRD's three advisory committees typically meet on the third Wednesday of the month (6-12 times annually) to participate in discussions, review plans, and provide broad feedback on park district programs, facilities, and parks. Each committee includes at least nine appointed volunteers, a staff liaison and a member of THPRD's Board of Directors. Volunteers must be district residents and commit to serving a two-year term.
Community oversight helps guide THPRD's planning efforts in the following areas:
THPRD recruits for new volunteers each fall. Applicants must be age 16+, live in-district and commit to a two-year term (starting January 2026) to qualify. The next round of recruitment will open in by October 1, 2026.

Our Adoption Program is temporarily closed as we move through a transition to upgrade our volunteer database. We hope to re-open the program to new volunteers by February 2026.
Aquatic Champion (Ages 18+)

Budget Committee (Ages 16+)
The Budget Committee generally meets three times a year and is responsible for providing public oversight of budget preparations, recommending changes to the proposed budget, and supplying information to the public about district business and operations. This 10-member committee includes all five THPRD board members and five citizen members.

Coaching (Ages 18+)
District Coaches and Assistant Coaches provide an enjoyable learning environment for youth athletes involved in a variety of athletic programs, while promoting participants’ physical, social and personal development. Volunteer coaches support a variety of sports throughout the year, including:
Basketball – Tualatin Hills Athletic Center recruits coaches and assistant coaches to support middle and high school-aged basketball leagues. Coaches are recruited for the spring, summer and winter seasons, with recruitment opening in February, May and November, respectively. Apply here (in English & Spanish)!
Volleyball – Tualatin Hills Athletic Center recruits coaches to support middle and high school-aged leagues during the summer and fall. Coaches are recruited for the summer and fall seasons, with recruitment opening in May and August, respectively. Apply here (in English & Spanish)!
Track & Field – Cedar Hills Recreation Center recruits coaches to support track & field activities. These activities take place at Beaverton-area middle schools on weeknights, from late February – early May. Apply here (in English & Spanish)!
Cross Country – Cedar Hills Recreation Center recruits coaches to support cross country activities. These activities take place at Beaverton-area middle schools on weeknights, from late August – early November. Apply here (in English & Spanish)!
Coffee Barista (Ages 55+)
Our volunteer baristas manage the coffee station at the Elsie Stuhr Center and serve coffee to patrons. We are currently in need of more baristas and you must be age 55+ to volunteer at this location. This is a great opportunity to expand your social network while volunteering to support the Stuhr community. If you're interested in this opportunity, please apply here (in English & Spanish).
Childcare Assistant (Ages 14+)
Childcare Assistants help staff with the oversight, setup and cleanup of youth preschool, drop-in child care and afterschool programs. Volunteers help facilitate activities, which could include crafts, dance, hiking, singing, sports and games. Each location may provide a different experience and/or serve a different portion of the community.
